Survey: Parents buying cell phones for kids as young as 6-years-old

How young is too young for kids to have cell phones? A new survey found that most children are getting their first cell phone at the age of six.

The survey from voucher-cloud sampled nearly 3,000 American parents with at least one child under the age of 18.

They asked them which electronic devices they had purchased for their children.

96 percent said they had bought them a cell phone.

31 percent of parents said they purchased their kids a cell phone for security reasons.

About a quarter of them claim it was so they could keep in touch with their friends and family.

The parents in the survey -estimate they spent nearly $500 per child to equip them with the gadgets.
