Thief takes off with family toy hauler

A thief in Avondale made off with a Recreational Vehicle, and the theft was all caught on camera.

The RV was stolen near a business on 99th Avenue near Interstate 10.

Surveillance cameras captured the thief in action. A light colored Ford Truck with a camper shell approached, then the driver backed up to the toy hauler trailer late Thursday night. He's seen unplugging the power cord, removing the wood between the tires, and then driving off with the trailer.

"And I said, you gotta be kidding me. Sure enough, came down to the shop, looked at the surveillance video and saw it being stolen Thursday evening around midnight," said Chris Prenovost.

Prenovost and his family have owned the weekend warrior toy hauler since 2007. He kept it parked behind his business in Avondale.

"Yeah, it's 35 feet overall, a 10,000 pound trailer. It's nothing you can just go hide in your backyard really easy," he said.

In the other angle from the video, you can see the alleged thief wearing a sweatshirt, baseball cap, and jeans looking around as he got ready to drive off with the trailer.

Prenovost is hoping someone saw the truck and trailer as it drove away Thursday night.

The trailer was also packed with the families personal belongings; they often take weekend trips out of town.

"This is my family's recreation; I had plans to go out this weekend, to go out to the sand dunes in California. I'm either going to have to call it off or rent a trailer or something like that," said Prenovost.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Avondale Police at (623) 333-7003.
