Lockdown at White House lifted after man arrested

- The White House was placed on lockdown on Monday afternoon, but was later lifted after a man was taken into custody.

The lockdown was sparked after the man got on the other side of a temporary bike rack on the Northeast fence of the White House. He was immediately arrested by the Secret Service.

The man never made it onto the grounds of the White House, according to the Secret Service.

A group of college students from Tennessee visiting Washington D.C. were in the area of the White House when they saw the suspect taken into custody.

“They subdued him and they started screaming for him to get on the ground and put his hands behind his head,” said one of the students.

After that, the group said they were told to run towards H Street.

“It was pretty intense, it was really scary,” said Bianca Gonzalez. “We heard a lot of cops yelling and saying, ‘Run, run, run.’ We were taking pictures and we did what they told us to do. It was scary and that's all we knew to do.”
