NYPD taking precautions with officers, precincts

- The NYPD is stepping up security for its officers in the wake of the attack on Dallas police.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton held a news conference Friday afternoon from 1 Police Plaza where they addressed the increased security measures.

The leader of nation's largest police department said it's using additional foot posts including sending out officers in pairs and other measures to protect precinct station houses around the city. The department has also ordered officers to stay together during breaks and meals. Auxiliary officers -- who are unarmed, uniformed volunteers -- have been pulled off the streets for now. Officers have also been told to be extra vigilant while on patrol.

The NYPD says there are no specific threats against New York's police force, and that the steps were strictly a precaution.

Gunmen in Dallas killed five officers and wounded seven others on Thursday during a protest over fatal police shootings of black men.
