Abandoned baby rescued from toilet drain

Police in China are searching for the parents of a newborn baby that was found abandoned in a toilet on Sunday.

According to Newser, people who were passing by the toilet heard cries from inside of it and alerted authorities.

Police were originally going to dismantle the toilet in order to rescue the infant, reports CNN. But an officer realized that it would take too long to do that, and so he reached his bare hand inside of the drain and pulled the baby to safety.

FOX News reports a large amount of babies abandoned in China usually have physical disabilities. However, police say this newborn shows no physical defects.

The People's Daily reports blood and other fluids were found at the site of the toilet. So, it is believed that the mother abandoned the newborn after giving birth in the toilet.
