"Austin Powers" actor Verne Troyer dies at age 49

(Fox 32 News) - Actor Verne Troyer died Saturday.

Troyer, 49, was best known for playing "Mini-Me" in the "Austin Powers" movies.

TMZ reports that Troyer had struggled with alcoholism, and had been to rehab many times. He was on life support after being hospitalized earlier this month; police had come when someone had reported he was drunk and suicidal. His family said he was treated for alcohol poisoning.

The New York Daily News said that Troyer almost died from alcohol poisoning in 2002.

In a statement, "Austin Powers" star Mike Meyers said," Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him. It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed."

Troyer was born in Michigan to Amish parents. He died in Los Angeles.

His film and television career included "Gnome Alone," "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," and "Men in Black" aside from the "Austin Powers" movies.
