Best Buy stops selling CDs

The era of CDs is over, at least for retailer Best Buy.

While the company has made no announcement on their decision to end CD sales on its website, news of the retail chain's decision first emerged in February, in a report by billboard.com. The report also noted that vinyl sales will continue for the coming two years.

As of Monday, a selection of CDs are still available for purchase on Best Buy's website.

Nationally, CD sales have plummeted from its peak in 2000. According to RIAA, CD sales revenue totaled $13.2 billion that year, which accounts for 92.3% of all recorded music sales revenue that year.

In 2017, CD sales revenue totaled $1.1 billion.
