Bloomingdale's apologizes for 'date rape' ad

Bloomingdale's issued a public apology yesterday in response to brewing controversy over an ad that some say implicitly promotes the idea of date rape.

The catalog ad features a woman laughing as a man gazes at her. Between them, a statement reads: "Spike your best friend's eggnog when they're not looking."

The department store now says the ad was "inappropriate and in poor taste."

But it may not be enough to gain back the trust of consumers, many of whom have taken to Twitter to express their disgust.
