Bomb threat grounds Spirit Airlines flight to Minneapolis

A Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to Minneapolis-St. Paul made an emergency landing Thursday night after 2 passengers made a bomb threat.

According to those on the plane, 2 passengers were overheard mentioning the word "bomb" about 20 minutes after takeoff. The plane turned around and the 2 passengers were removed. Bomb-sniffing dogs searched the plane and nothing was found.

The plane took off a few hours later and landed in Minneapolis just after 6 a.m. Friday.

Spirit Airlines statement

"Spirit Airlines Flight 596 from Fort Lauderdale to Minneapolis returned to the gate this evening after 15 minutes in the air. The flight crew decided to return to the gate because of a security issue on board. The Broward Sheriff's Office is now on scene and will be in charge of any law enforcement investigation at the airport."
