Boy set on fire by bully

Deandre Bloomfield, 13, remains in the hospital with second and third degree burns. His mother says her son was set on fire by a bully.

"He just wants friends not thinking the worst, that this can happen to him," Ursula Allen, his mother, says.

The horrific act took place on December 2 at the 13-year-old suspect's Staten Island home. Allen says the teen sprayed cologne on her son, who is disabled, and lit a match.

"He was trying to leave, run out of the house but he can't because he can't run. He walks with a limp," Allen says. "That's when he lit up a match for the second time and that's when it lit up."

Allen says the teen's mother and and sister were in the house during the attack. She says that instead of calling 911 immediately for help, it took them about two hours to get him medical attention.

"When the sister saw what was going on she covered it up," Allen says. "She put Deandre in the shower which hurts even more."

According to Allen, Deandre has been a victim of bullying in the past.

"The kids around here call him Limpy," Allen says. "I correct everybody that his name is not Limpy, it's Deandre."

Now, he lays in a hospital bed with burns to his face, neck, chest and forearm.

"Deandre is scarred for the rest of his life. And it's not only the physical damage, it's the mental damage because every night Deandre is crying with nightmares," Allen says.

The 13-year-old was arrested and is charged with two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Allen has a message for the suspect's family, "Shame on you."
