Coast Guard helicopter rescues dog, boaters on Lake Superior

The U.S. Coast Guard dropped a line from a helicopter to rescue 2 people and dog from a sailboat that was taking on water on Lake Superior, near Sand Island in Wisconsin's Apostle Islands. The Coast Guard responded to a call on Tuesday that the sailboat was being pushed by the wind and could run aground. One passenger had already fallen overboard and swam to shore.

Due to shallow water, strong winds and treacherous waves, a helicopter was used to pull the remaining passenger and the dog from the boat. The passengers were taken to a local hospital, but the Coast Guard did not release their health status or their identities.
