Collapsed bridge on I-10 to partially reopen on Friday

Part of Interstate 10, east of Palm Springs, that collapsed over the weekend because of a flooding will reopen soon.

The California Department of Transportation has announced that I-10 at Tex Wash Bridge will open to traffic Friday July 24 at noon.

Crews will strengthen the westbound side of the bridge in order to allow two-way traffic, one lane in each direction.

Once I-10 is opened, minor work will be performed on the westbound side first and then work will start on the eastbound side afterward.

The existing detours will remain in effect until the full reopening of I-10, however, there is no estimate for when the freeway will reopen until all inspections are complete.

ADOT is using a variety of methods to inform drivers of the closure far in advance of the closure, including highway message boards, az511.gov, the 511 phone system and social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
