Gainesville Couple Accused of Abuse

A grand jury indicted a Gainesville couple of first degree child cruelty last month after they allegedly abused a child in their care.

According to the Hall County District Attorney's Office, Stacy Hicks, 33, and William Sewell, Jr., 36, mentally and physically abused the child in 2013 and 2014. A police report shows that child is one of Hicks's family members.

The indictment alleges Hicks withheld food from the child for four months.

"Many times we are brought these types of cases that are just absolutely disgusting and sickening," said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook of the Gainesville Police Department. "[It] makes us, even as law enforcement officers that have seen the worst of the worst and most gruesome acts you can possibly imagine, [...] really makes you question humanity in and of itself."

Both Hicks and Sewell have bonded out of jail since their arrests.
