Covington 1-year-old with new heart doing great, excited for Halloween

A Covington boy who received a new heart just before Christmas last year is gearing up for his first trick-or-treating experience.

Last year, Kaleb Waddleton's parents thought their son had a simple cold, but instead doctors diagnosed him with dilated cardiomyopathy. After spending months at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, baby Kaleb received a new heart on December 4.

Mother Marissa Waddleton told FOX 5 Kaleb is doing great and will dress up as "Woody" from Toy Story for Halloween.

"Last year we were living in the hospital, trying to be excited about upcoming holidays," Waddleton said on Facebook recently. "This year we are very excited and blessed to be spending the upcoming holidays at home."

Waddleton said they're taking Kaleb to their town square to trick-or-treat Monday night.

"God blessed me with one strong little boy," Waddleton said on Facebook in September. "Three months of his life were definitely the hardest, but looking back at it today it was only a short period of his life that he will only remember what I tell him and the pictures I show him."

Kaleb, who turned 1 in September, loves to clap, play ball, and is just enjoying being a normal toddler.

"I wake up and go to bed thanking God that Kaleb is just now a normal 1 year old who is so full of life."

Waddleton said her son still has to get frequent lab draws, but his appointments are now every two months. She said throughout this journey the power of prayer has been amazing.
