Divers swim with whale shark off coast of Florida

A Ruskin man and his friends had a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they got to swim with a whale shark off the coast of Florida this week.

The group was spearfishing about 50 miles off the coast of Englewood when Jim Hohler said they saw a massive fin come out of the water. They realized when they got closer it was a whale shark that appeared to be about 30 feet long and very friendly. "She came right up to the boat and seemed to follow us around," Hohler said.

Everyone was able to swim around the whale shark, which swam around them for a while. "She was as intrigued with us as we were her," Hohler said. "Some memories you have forever. This is one."
