Drone video shows devastating Woolsey Fire damage in Malibu

A Malibu resident got drone shots of the damage caused by the Woolsey Fire from his own backyard that has scorched more than 96,000 acres.

Ari Soffer flew his drone over the Cavalleri Road area off of Pacific Coast Highway and Kanan Dume to help his neighbors survey the wildfire destruction.

Drone footage shows quite a bit of damage in the area, with smoke rising from some spots that are smouldering.

Some houses are untouched, while others are completely destroyed.

Soffer said he has lived in the neighborhood for four years. Since the Woolsey Fire broke out, he's been in contact with many of the neighbors -- sometimes with good news, sometimes bad.

"Having to tell them that their houses burned down is very upsetting," he told FOX 11.

"I just actually told one neighbor that his house was safe though. He was so happy."

On Tuesday morning, Cal Fire said the wildfire had burned 96,314 acres and containment increased to 35 percent.

An estimated 534 homes and buildings have been destroyed by the blaze, and 57,000 other structures remained threatened.

All evacuation orders were lifted Monday night in the city of Los Angeles. Mandatory evacuation orders were also lifted for the Westlake Village area of Thousand Oaks and the Bell Canyon area of Ventura County.
