Fort Worth homeowner shoots suspected burglar

A man who was found with a gunshot wound in Fort Worth may have been shot by a homeowner.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 4300 block of Decatur Avenue. A woman told police her husband shot someone that may have been trying to break into his company van.

A short time later a man with a gunshot wound walked into the Quick Trip a few miles away and asked for help.

Police believe the two incidents were related. The injured man arrived at the gas station in the same maroon Ford Explorer that the homeowner described.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other people who were with him were taken into custody for questioning, but they have not yet been arrested.

The homeowner is also being questioned by police.

His mother said about a month ago he had to install a heavy-duty lock on his van because someone had tried to break into it. She said he was afraid something would happen to his family.

"You have to protect your family because what about if they come in and they do something to you. I mean, you never know what they gonna do," said Araceli Montano, the homeowner's mother.

Police are still investigating the case.
