I-85N reopens after trailer carrying bees overturns

A trailer carrying bees overturned Tuesday afternoon on I-85 northbound in Charlotte near the Gaston-Mecklenburg county line, blocking traffic and causing delays through the area.

Authorities said I-85 northbound reopened around 6 p.m. Tuesday. The trailer overturned at mile marker 28, near the weigh station at the Catawba River.

Multiple NCDOT incident management units were on scene.

A beekeeper was also on scene to manage the bees that were let loose on the highway.

Medic said one person was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Expect heavy residual delays in the area. US HWY 74 is the alternate route for traffic.
