Prince William Co. police officer killed in shooting on first day on job

A Prince William County police officer was killed and two other officers were hurt in a domestic-related shooting incident in Woodbridge, Va. on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, Officer Ashley Guindon was one of the three officers injured in a shooting on Lashmere Court. She died of injuries sustained during the incident.

Guindon, 28, had gone through training with the department last year before leaving for personal reasons. She rejoined the department this year and Saturday was her first day on patrol, according to Police Chief Stephan Hudson.

Just Friday, the department tweeted a photo of Officer Guindon and another fellow new officer, right after they were sworn in.

All three officers were flown by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The injured officers were identified as Jesse Hempen, 31, an eight-year veteran of department; and David McKeown, 33, a 10-year veteran. They are expected to recover, Hudson said. Details about their injuries were not released.

The department has asked for thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. A black drape was placed across the entrance to the department's headquarters early Sunday morning.

Black drape being placed here at Prince William Co. Police. Officer Ashley Guindon was killed in the line of duty last night. Prayers for her friends, family and this department as they recover.
