Parents of murdered UNT student focused on daughter's legacy

Denton police now have security video taken near the New Year's morning shooting that claimed a young woman's life. The video does not show the shooting, but does show the suspect vehicle.

Twenty-year-old Sara Mutschlechner was driving friends home from a New Year's Eve party when passengers in her car exchanged words with people in an SUV carrying five or six men.

Someone in the SUV opened fire on the car and Mutschlechner was struck, causing her to crash into a utility pole.

Mutschlechner parents spoke with FOX 4's Zahid Arab.

"This is senseless and tragic," Clay Mutschlechner said.

"I couldn't go to sleep," said her mother, Gloria. "All I could think about was her and this horrible thing that happened to her. She did not deserve this."

"We're all going to miss her," Clay added. "Some people don't get to have their kids 20 years. We have to be blessed with what we've had with our time spent."

Mutschlechner was a junior at UNT where she studied Radio/Television/Film.

An online fundraising campaign for her is now underway. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/e6h77krp.
