Police: 3-year-old shot in face, mother charged

A 3-year-old is recovering after he picked up a loaded gun and it discharged into his face, according to Cobb County Police.

It happened last Monday around 11:30 a.m. The bullet went through both the toddler's cheeks. He was in a room at the Comfort Inn & Suites located along Corporate Plaza in Smyrna with two other children when the gun fired.

Cobb County Police said the children were with two adults, a man and a woman, and they did not immediately call 911.

The man and woman drove off with the children in the car.

Hotel employees called for help and police were able to find the car with the injured child inside and take him to the hospital.

The child is expected to be okay. Cobb County Police told FOX 5 News that all three children will be placed in DFACS custody.

The woman charged in this incident, Tashia Woods, is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless conduct, and theft by receiving a firearm.

More charges may be added.
