Flooding leads to at least 3 North Texas deaths

Three people are dead and a fourth is missing and presumed dead from Thursday night and Friday morning's flash flooding in North Texas.

Police say in Tarrant County, a driver called 911 Friday morning asking for help at the intersection of Campbell and Brand roads.

When rescuers got there, they found the vehicle submerged but could not find the driver.

Tarrant County Sheriff's Deputy Krystal Salazar was rescued after holding on to a tree for more than two hours. She was swept away by floodwaters as she tried to rescue the driver.

"She entered the water, she attempted to rescue…to move, to get into the car and free the victim," said Terry Grisham with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. "The water was moving too rapidly. It took the car and her and the deputy and the occupant of the car into the creek and downstream."

Salazar managed to grab onto the branch of a tree and hold on for a few hours in deep water. Rescue crews were able to find her, and she was taken to a hospital. She has since been released.

The woman Salazar was trying to rescue is presumed dead.

Firefighters in Garland found a man's body inside of his car on Friday. His car was submerged in high water.

Police say the driver, Benjamin Taylor Floyd, called 911 asking for help at the intersection of Campbell and Brand roads.

When rescuers got there, they found the vehicle submerged, but could not find the driver.

Firefighters had to break the window to get inside. The man's identity has not been released.

In Johnson County, a 33-year-old woman was swept away in floodwater. The sheriff's department confirmed they have recovered the body of Sandra Jones.

Her vehicle was washed off a county road northwest of Joshua.

Johnson County authorities reported several other high water rescues in the area on Friday morning as well.

Three men in a pickup were caught in flash flooding in Mansfield. Two of them made it to safety, but the sheriff's department says 48-year-old Jose Vargas drowned.

The accident happened near FM 917 in an area where flooding is a problem during heavy rain.

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
