Search continues for Mexican drug kingpin

A frantic manhunt is underway for notorious drug kingpin Chapo Guzman, who continues to evade capture.

It's been more than 48 hours since his brazen escape from prison.

Now there is a multi-million dollar reward being offered for information leading to the capture of Guzman. This after there are reports that the Director of the maximum security prison, where he was being held, was fired.

He is now the world's most wanted man, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman stepped into his prison shower, into a mile-long five-foot tunnel that had ventilation and lighting and then vanished.

It's the second time the ruthless Sinaloa Cartel leader escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico.

It's a big embarrassment and humiliating blow to President Enrique Pena Nieto, and Mexican leadership who declined to extradite him to the United States.

"This is undoubtedly an affront to the Mexican government, but I am also confident that Mexican institutions, particularly those charged with public security rise to the challenge," said President Pena Nieto.

According to DEA documents, U.S. agents knew about plans to free El Chapo from prison 16 months ago. In March 2014, Los Angeles DEA agents reported a possible escape operation that involved bribing or threatening prison workers. One senior DEA official told FOX News that "It's pretty clear Mexico is incapable of keeping him. He needed to come here, and we may now never get that chance."

"This really is a symbol of corruption. It's a symbol of not attending to the duty of keeping the bad guys in prison. And when that happens, it's a blast to the morale of all of the agents anywhere in the world," said Peter Bessinger, former DEA Administrator.

Guzman had been behind bars for 16 months before this weekend's escape. Nearly three days later there is no sign of him, but a Twitter account purporting to be that of the drug kingpin shows him enjoying beer and flying on a small plane.
