Soldier surprises mother at work by being rolled in on a stretcher

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - An airman is rushed to the Midwest regional hospital in Oklahoma City after taking a fall at Tinker Air Force Base.

But don't worry, the whole scenario isn't real.

It was all part of a soldier's surprise homecoming.

19-year-old army soldier Brandon Smith has been stationed in Germany and wanted to surprise his mom for the Thanksgiving holiday after telling her he wouldn't be able to make it home.

So he and the hospital staff came up with the idea of bringing him into the hospital room, on a stretcher where his mother was working.

He then walked up behind her and gave her a big hug.

Brandon said, "It's going to be nice to you know give her this surprise because she was down when I said I wasn't going to make it for Thanksgiving, but low and behold we knew the whole time we would.

When asked if he lied to his mom, Brandon responded,"Yes sir, a little bit."

Shawn Smith, Brandon's father, said, "He's been away from us a year and eleven months. And it just. I'm sorry. It just takes you back you know when you don't get to see him every day."

Tammy Smith, Brandon's mother, said "All my friends lying to me yeah. It feels really good for everybody to do this for me. Thank you."

"It's awesome it's really nice I'm happy."

Tammy Smith's co-nurses filled the rest of her shift.

Her son goes back to Germany in about three weeks.
