Springtown mom accused of giving pot, beer to kids

Parker County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Springtown-area mother, accused of giving beer and marijuana at least eight kids, between the ages 12 and 14 years old.

Investigators say 32-year-old Mandy Nichole Wells admitted giving it to the kids at a party at her house on Nov. 6.

One of them posted a picture to Instagram, and parents started asking questions and contacted police.

Police say Wells offered them marijuana and beer without prompting and said it was OK because they were sleeping over.

Wells remains in jail on a $20,000 bond.

Penny McKinzie says Wells, her daughter-in-law, told her from the Parker County Jail that she's sorry for what she did.

"She just said, 'I'm not very proud of myself right now, Penny,' and I said, 'I know you're not,' and I said, 'I don't even know what you were thinking,' because, that's just not her, it's not her," said McKenzie.

Detectives with Parker County Sheriff's Special Crimes Unit say Wells first gave the kids beer.

According to the probable cause warrant, "Each child had 2 beers."

Then, detectives said Wells brought out a purple and pink colored glass pipe.

According to the warrant, "She allowed the children to smoke marijuana and she ground the marijuana and packed the pipe and smoked with the children."

"It's wrong, whatever happened," said McKinzie. "It' wrong. I mean, you just don't do it to kids, and especially anybody else's."

When Wells was confronted, investigators say she admitted to everything and only expressed one moment of second thought.

According to the warrant, "She thought for a minute that [giving beer and marijuana] was a bad idea but she did it anyway."

Sharla Schneider has known Wells for almost 15 years, and the accusations are not the mom she knows.

"I think she needs to be punished, but for the kids not to have any parents at home and the burden it's gonna put on the grandparents," said Schneider.
