State mounts sting operation against unlicensed contractors

PHOENIX (AP) -- State regulators mounted a sting operation to nab unlicensed individuals performing contracting work.

The Registrar of Contractors says nine people were arrested and others were cited. It also says authorities continue to investigate several additional individuals believed to be engaged in contracting or advertising without a license.

The office says its operation used sting houses, lasted nearly two weeks and involved local law enforcement agencies in Cochise, Maricopa, Pima and Yuma counties.

According to the office, its operation was part of a nationwide operation planned in coordination with the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies.
