WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump is taking out his frustrations over the intensifying Russia investigation by lashing out at special counsel Robert Mueller.
Twitter rants by Trump signal a possible shift away from a strategy of cooperating with a probe the president believes is biased against him.
In a series of weekend tweets naming Mueller for the first time, Trump criticized the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and raised fresh concerns about the objectivity and political leanings of the members of Mueller's team.
Wow, watch Comey lie under oath to Senator G when asked “have you ever been an anonymous source...or known someone else to be an anonymous source...?” He said strongly “never, no.” He lied as shown clearly on @foxandfriends.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 18, 2018
Spent very little time with Andrew McCabe, but he never took notes when he was with me. I don’t believe he made memos except to help his own agenda, probably at a later date. Same with lying James Comey. Can we call them Fake Memos?— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 18, 2018
Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Another Dem recently added...does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 18, 2018
Trump also challenged the honesty of fired FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe and former FBI director James Comey, whom Trump fired last year over the Russia probe.
Two Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee say they want to review whether McCabe's firing was justified.
