A valley man was doing yard work during the storm on Monday morning when he was hit by lightning.
Tommy Mendoza says he had been standing in a puddle in his front yard near 7th Street and Bethany Home Road when he was struck.
He was fixing a sprinkler when he was knocked to the ground. Afterward, he was taken to a hospital.
When he arrived, doctors thought he had been involved in a crash before hearing his story.
He's recovering in an intensive care unit. Doctors tell Mendoza they couldn't find a pulse in his legs, and needed to check for nerve damage.
