Valley horse sanctuary throws baby shower for rescued, pregnant Mustang

A Cave Creek horse sanctuary that rescues mistreated, abused and abandoned horses threw one of their pregnant Mustangs a baby shower today.

10-year-old Rain was rescued by Tierra Madre hours before she was supposed to be shipped out of the country by a "kill-buyer." The non-profit's founder paid $500 for Rain, and, as it turns out, a foal.

That's why Corral Manager Alexis Roeckner and the rest of the volunteers threw Rain a baby shower.

"We have to frequently be the last point for these horses," said Roeckner. "We so frequently have to witness the end of a life, and today we're celebrating the fact that for the first time, we get to witness the beginning."

In addition to extra love and attention, she says donations are needed to help pay for food and medical care that's so badly needed. If you would like to donate to the sanctuary, you can contact them at 480-469-9166.
