Verrado community opens for 55+ as buyers line up

It's been a long time since we've seen this, people waiting in line overnight to grab a lot for a new home. But it was the scene in Verrado as builders prepared to open a new community for people 55 and older.

The community called Victory will be north of the Verrado neighborhoods that are built right now.

The development released 100 lots, and people were lined up as early as one this morning to make sure they scored the home they wanted.

Dave Jahne and his wife were the first ones in line, a victory if you will for the valley couple. "At one this morning my wife, who is a light sleeper, woke me up and said go buy a house," he said. Dave knew better than to say no to his wife, but that's not the only reason the Jahne's braved the rain and the cold. "This is where we want to be for the next chapter; you get the stunning sunsets with the sun sinking over the mountains, and it's just gorgeous."

Victory is a community designed for people 55 and older, but builders created the neighborhood knowing people are living and working longer.

"We wanted to be in the middle of things, we wanted to be where multiple generations would live access to our friends and family and where we would work," said Victory at Verrado General Manager Nick Taratsas.

When the community is finished there will be a golf course, a club house with restaurants, a gym, pools, and a spa, plus easy access to hiking trails.

"It's not all 70-year-old people here, and there's a lot of active adults here and a lot of activities, and that's one of the things we were looking for," said Doug Seatln.

Interest in the community has been high. "This is a Cadillac project," said Gene Habich.

And more lots could soon be released as the community grows.

"Every single six months, and every single year for the next 2-3 years we are bringing something dramatic to the property," said Taratsas.
