Willow Canyon H.S. track coach accused of assaulting student

Buckeye police arrested a Willow Canyon High School track coach for sex abuse and aggravated assault on Monday.

Authorities say Gabriel Jesus Campos, a Surprise resident, is accused of groping and fondling a 16-year-old female student athlete at a park in Buckeye during non-school hours.

The 16 year-old's father is the one who called police. An investigation found that the coach and student were exchanging text messages and setting up meetings at valley parks.

Campos, 35, was taken into custody while heading to a track practice and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail, he is facing charges of sexual abuse, and one count of a aggravated assault.

Officials are requesting parents and students that have any information regarding similar behavior by Campos to contact either the Buckeye Police Department at (623) 349-6400 or City of Surprise Police Department at (623) 222-4000.
