Arizona Legislature passes $9.1 billion state budget

PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Legislature has passed a budget after debating for about 24 hours.

Governor Doug Ducey and the Republican Leadership in the House and Senate worked to pass the $9.1 billion budget .

House Democrats say the opposition is rushing the budget through the Legislature to prevent transparency and oversight.  They say the budget cuts more than $100 million from higher education, and call the budget "a shell game" that's full of tax cuts for special interests and corporate giveaways.

Ducey said Friday there was no reason to hold up a vote, although many lawmakers in his own party objected to parts of the budget plan early Friday.
