Kid Rock may be running for U.S. Senate

Kid Rock could someday represent the state of Michigan in Washington, DC and it could be very soon after he announced plans to run for Senate on Twitter.

Kid Rock, real name Bob Ritchie, announced he is running the U.S. Senate in the state of Michigan with a tweet confirming that the website www.kidrockforsenate.com is, in fact, real.

Michigan GOP says Kid Rock 'would be awesome' as Senate candidate

The site even includes a way for you to buy merchandise to support Kid Rock's Senate run.

Back in February, RollCall.com reported that Kid Rock was being eyed to run on the GOP ticket in Michigan. A rep for the Michigan Republican Party told Fox News that, as far as she knows, no one has reached out to him, but she thinks it would be a great idea if someone did.

It appears someone did. He said that people kept asking if the website was real and that it 'absolutely' was.

A follow up tweet promised a major announcement in the future.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, there have not been any filings on the Federal Election Commission website under his legal name - Robert Ritchie.

If you're clicking through kidrockforsenate.com and click on the merchandise, it takes you to a kidrock.warnerbrosrecords.com site, meaning this could be some kind of an album announcement.

The Romeo-native was apparently being seen as a possible contender for the seat maintained by Democrat Debbie Stabenow. Her seat is up for re-election next year and she's held it since 2000. If he were to run - and win - it would be the first Republican candidate to win the seat since 1988.

WEB UPDATE: Stabenow has responded with a statement about the music star's tease at a political attempt.

"I know we both share a love of music," she wrote. "I concede he is better at playing the guitar and I'll keep doing what I do best, which is fighting for Michigan."

The Romeo-based musician has been a strong supporter of the Republican cause and told The Rolling Stone in 2016 that he was "Digging Donald Trump". Three years prior, he told the same publication that he considered himself a Libertarian.

Kid Rock came out in support of Mitt Romney when he ran for President in 2012 and was pictured in the White House with President Trump earlier this spring.
