Atlanta Motor Speedway damaged by Irma

Atlanta Motor Speedway may have been a safe haven to Floridians fleeing the full wrath of Irma, but it, unfortunately, did not escape the storm unscathed.

Officials said two of the stairwells in the actual structure suffered exterior damage from the high winds.

"Wind and rain from the storm, the facade got a little bit saturated and the wind -- a bit of cosmetic damage here to the stair tower," said spokesperson Dustin Bixby. "We've got stuff blowing around, as I'm sure everybody does with trees down, but really what you see is really the worst of it."

Bixby said the damage was far less than what the track suffered a few years ago during a tornado which tore through Hampton.
