FOX 13 anchor Denise White - FOX 10 News |

Denise White

Faith, family and integrity are the principles that guide Denise White in her personal and professional lives. Her values were shaped growing up in a small Virginia community with her parents and brother.

She began her broadcast career in Richmond while still a student at Virginia Commonwealth University. Denise was an intern at the NBC affiliate WXEX Channel 8. It's where she learned how failure can lead to success. After a crash course in meteorology, Denise filled in for the weekend weatherman. She discovered that learning forecasting in a single day can't be done, at least not well.

She bounced back, and often uses the experience to show students how failing at something doesn't mean that you are a failure. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going.

Denise did that and went on to find success in radio, then television in Charlottesville, Virginia. A year later she returned to Richmond and worked as a reporter covering the Virginia General Assembly, hosted a United Negro College Fund telethon, and produced a half-hour black history special.

The work led to a reporter and weekend anchor position in Orlando, Florida at the ABC affiliate WFTV Channel 9, where she did some investigative reporting and sharpened her anchor skills. After a year in Orlando, Denise was hired in Miami. Over the next 10 years, she worked as a reporter, anchored a morning show and eventually became the 5 o'clock anchor, where she was nominated for an Emmy in spot news coverage.

Today, Denise anchor's the noon news and co-anchors the market-leading 5 p.m. newscast at the Fox owned WTVT Channel 13 in Tampa. She has been an honorary co-chair for the March of Dimes, won first place in the Griot Drum Journalism Awards, co-founded a holiday food and toy drive for migrant farm children, and researches, writes and produces the station's black history segments each February.

And one more thing: Yes, that is Denise in a vintage TV episode of Miami Vice.
