Metro administrators are taking a hard line approach against bus drivers who have been using their phones while operating a bus. 20 bus operators have been fired for it and hundreds of others have been suspended for breaking other violations.
The bus drivers who were fired were caught on camera using cell phones while they were operating buses that were out of service. No passengers were aboard on those buses.
Metro officials have also suspended 222 drivers for other violations such as running red lights, speeding, and aggressive driving.
The video cameras are mounted on the front windshield of the bus. The cameras turn on when the bus makes a sudden movement.
FOX 5’s call to the union that represents Metro bus drivers was not returned.
