Man Held on $250K Bond in Phoenix Police Shooting

Posted:

PHOENIX (AP) — A man suspected of shooting a Phoenix police officer is being held on $250,000 bond at a Maricopa County jail.

Police say 26-year-old Joseph Sandoval allegedly opened fire on the officer Saturday as police entered a trailer that appeared to have been broken into.

They say Sandoval was out of prison for 15 days before the shooting.

Sandoval's recent parole meant that he was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, serious physical injury assault and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

Police say the 30-year-old officer is in stable condition following surgery for gunshot wounds.

They won't release the identity of the injured officer, who has been on the force about four years.
