Church Members, Friends Shocked by Youth Minister's Arrest

There's new information surrounding a youth minister accused of molesting a young boy during a church youth camp. Friends of the suspect say they're shocked by the arrest.

Jasmine Brown worked with kids. He was a church leader, a teacher and neighbors say he was a nice guy.

Church members say he was abused in the past and was turning his life around.

"Yeah, one time I took him to work."

Charlie Cox says his next door neighbor, Jasmine Brown is now a stranger after Mesa police accused the youth minister of sexually assaulting one of his students.

"Shocking. Ever time I hear something like that on the news, it bothers me. There are so many people doing these kind of crimes and it sickens really does," he said.

Family of God Christian Fellowship is a small membered Apache Junction church. The congregation is now reeling from the devastating blow.

"Up to this point, he has been a stand up guy..perfect guy," said Pastor Michael Scott. "He has made dynamic changes, ya know? He has made a really bad decision, bad choice."

Scott was forced to call the police after the victim came forward.

"As much as we love Jasmine and pray, we have to do what's right. It's very hard to call the police on your own family, on a member of the church."

Brown was the church's youth minister and praise leader.

At Phoenix Collegiate Academy, investigators say Brown has been a full time teacher's aide since October -- where he works with special needs children.

School board members say Brown has been put on administrative leave while the police investigate.

"It's sad he was a nice guy, this is what he did and now he has to pay for it," said Cox.

Phoenix Collegiate Academy is bringing counselors to talk with the special needs children. Board members say Brown passed all background checks.

There will be a meeting Thursday night at Brown's church where leaders will answer questions.
