Husband Leads Phoenix Police to Wife's Body

The body of a woman has been recovered inside an Ahwatukee home in southeast Phoenix after a motorist told authorities that he had shot his wife.

Fire crews responded to a 911 call from a child Tuesday night that someone had been shot.

Shortly after the call, Anthony Philip Rinaldi pulled over on Interstate 10 near 16th Street and told a Department of Public Safety officer what had happened at his home, saying "Arrest me, I just killed my wife."

Rinaldi was taken into custody at that time.

When emergency responders arrived at the house near 46th Street and Piedmont, they discovered the victim, 28-year-old Amanda Blaies-Rinaldi. Two children, including the 911 caller, were also found in the home. They weren't injured.

Police have not released a motive, but did say the Rinaldis were arguing over financial matters around 6:21 p.m. Monday night.

Rinaldi, 26, was booked in the Maricopa County Jail and faces one count of second degree murder.

Neighbors are shocked.

"We've lived here 21 years and we have never ever ever had any problems in this neighborhood," said Mike Cullen. "It was very sad, especially so close to the holidays."

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson says at time of the incident, Rinaldi was employed by the Arizona Dept. of Corrections as a Corrections officer at the Perryville Prison. He has since been dismissed from his job.

According to the police report, Rinaldi was involved in multiple domestic violence incidents and may have mental issues -- including military post traumatic stress disorder.

He told detectives he "snapped" and his "military training kicked in." Rinaldi said "she's definitely dead" and that he "put two to the chest and one to the head."

His bond was set at $360,000. A status conference was scheduled for Dec. 21 followed by a preliminary hearing on Dec. 27.

The Rinaldis' children were placed in the custody of family members.
