Man Wanted in Ariz. Takes Plea in Vegas Stabbing

A man who authorities say also faces charges in Arizona in the slaying of an ex-girlfriend has taken a plea deal in Las Vegas in the stabbing of another woman he met through an online dating service.

Wade Mitchell Ridley, 54, pleaded an equivalent of no contest Thursday in Clark County District Court to attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon and armed robbery in the Jan. 21 attack on Mary Ann Beckman.

Ridley faces six to 70 years in Nevada prison at sentencing Dec. 1 before Judge Abbi Silver, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Police say Ridley and Beckman met through the online dating site Ridley acknowledged to police that he hid in Beckman's garage and attacked her with a knife until it broke, then stomped on her head and neck. Beckman survived the attack.

Ridley's so-called Alford plea didn't admit guilt but acknowledged that prosecutors could prove the case against him. His trial would have begun next week.

Ridley is sought in Arizona in the robbery and slaying of Anne Simenson, 62, with a butcher knife at her Phoenix home in early February, authorities said.

Police said they believe Ridley also wielded a knife to obtain painkillers during a robbery at Phoenix pharmacy the day of Simenson's slaying.

Ridley was driving Simenson's red 2005 Toyota Solara when he was arrested Feb. 14 in Las Vegas, authorities said.
