Hand Doctor on Trial for Domestic Violence Assault

Dr. Michael Brown of the Brown Hand Center, accused of beating his wife, is currently on trial for the assault.

It's either the case of a repeat abuser, as one side claims, or an estranged wife looking for more money, as the other has stated.

Either way, Dr. Michael Brown has gone a long way to tarnish his high profile image we're so familiar with here in the valley.

A lot of businesses claim they want you to feel like a member of the family, and in the case of the Brown Hand Center, the doctor put his family, including his now estranged wife, out front.

But Michael Brown is now facing a tougher challenge in a Texas courtroom.

Rachel Brown claims that her soon to be ex-husband nearly broke her arm just over a year ago after she confronted him about an extra-marital affair.

"His eyes were looked like they were enraged, they were like, one was looking at it, seemed like they were looking in opposite directions. They looked crazed," recalls Rachel Brown.

If Rachel Brown wants to paint her estranged husband as crazy, Dr. Brown wants jurors to believe that she is greedy. The defense cited a number of luxury cars in Rachel Brown's possession.

"Is it true that you have a Mercedes, a Lamborghini, a Maserati, a Hummer and a limousine at your disposal?" asked the defense attorney. "Yes," she replied simply.

But the prosecution need only point to a pattern of bad behavior. Dr. Michael Brown lost his medical license in 2006 after testing positive for cocaine.

He pleaded no contest to assaulting his third wife, who was pregnant at the time of the abuse.

If convicted, Dr. Brown could face 2 to 10 years in prison. His Brown Hand Center in Phoenix, along with four more in other states, is still open with other doctors at the helm.
