Estranged Wife Testifies in Hand Doctor Michael Brown Trial

The second day of testimony begins in the trial of the man who founded the Brown Hand Center, who is accused of assaulting his wife. The estranged wife shared her version of what happened on the witness stand.

Michael Brown, 54, was charged with assault of a family member for an incident involving his wife Rachel Brown in August 2010. She told police he grabbed her arm and twisted it while the two had argued inside their mansion on Memorial Drive. The two are in the process of divorcing.

The trial began Tuesday after jurors were selected Monday.

During her testimony Wednesday, Rachel recounted how she was a young divorced single mother with one child when she began dating Michael Brown. She also said the day before the alleged assault, she took her children to visit NASA and could not reach her husband by phone.

While on the witness stand, Rachel said she received an unintended voice mail message while she was taking a nap. When she listened to the message, she said could hear her husband engaged in a flirty conversation with someone else.

Rachel also admitted in court to confronting Michael when he arrived home and recording the audio of the argument. Because of the profane nature of the audio, much of the recording could not be played in court.

In one of the audio excerpts, Michael exclaims the following to Rachel: "Every time you open your mouth, you hurt our family."

Rachel testified when she asked her husband who the other woman was, he told her, "You can't handle it."

Jurors were also viewed photos Wednesday of property damage that resulted from the alleged attack.

Michael Brown's attorneys, including Brian Wice and Dick DeGuerin, claim the accusations made in court are all part of an attempted money grab on behalf of his ex-wife.

The entire trial is expected to take about four days to complete.

This is the second time Michael Brown has appeared in court on an assault charge. In 2002, he pleaded no contest to assaulting his third wife, who was pregnant at the time. Because of this, the current charge Brown faces is a third-degree felony.

Michael Brown also lost his medical license when he tested positive for cocaine in 2006. He founed the Brown Hand Center in 1988, which continues to operate in Houston and five other U.S. cities with other doctors at the helm.
