Scottsdale Police: Woman Admits to Shooting Husband

A 53-year-old woman has confessed to fatally shooting her husband back in November 2009 and disposing of his body out in the desert.

Scottsdale Police have arrested Shari Tobyne for the murder of her husband, Dwight Tobyne. Tobyne was killed sometime between Nov. 24 and Nov. 28, 2009, while in their condo near Mountain View Rd and 87th St.

At the time, Shari Tobyne told her adult children that she and Dwight had separated after 35 years of marriage, and he had left the country.

In July 2010, the Tobyne's adult children finally called Scottsdale Police to report their father missing, since they had not heard from him.

"And the children knew that he did have a friend in Mexico at the time, they thought it was a plausible answer from the mother that he could be there," says Scottsdale Police spokesperson Dave Pubins.

Over the course of the investigation, Shari admitted to shooting Dwight and dumping the body in the desert east of Phoenix. The remains have not yet been recovered.

Police say Shari told them she tried to kill herself, but her husband was accidentally shot and killed in the process.

Shari Tobyne has been charged with first degree premeditated murder and abandonment/concealment of a dead body.
