Bob Sirott's one more thing about NATO

One more thing, about NATO coming to Chicago next weekend.   I must admit that when it was first announced, I had my doubts as to whether the inconveniences and security issues were worth it, but now I get it. And all it took was a walk down Michigan Avenue.

On a day like today when the sky is the brightest of blues and the grass is an almost iridescent green, and Buckingham Fountain is back on for the season, this city can be truly exhilarating.  Walking by Millennium Park, it reminded me of some of the great parks of Europe.  The Art Institute and its public gardens beckon anyone who walks by. And there's the always dazzling textures that make up the architecturally unique wall of buildings old and new on Michigan Avenue between Lake and Balbo.

And all of it sparkling clean.  It is Chicago in all its glory.

No matter how long I've lived here, no matter how many times I've seen those sights, I never take it for granted or get over how spectacular this city is.   If the NATO folks take that picture of Chicago back to their respective countries, and spread the word,
then Chicago will take a giant step to finally take its rightful place as one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, adding millions to our economy.  That's what Mayor Emanuel has in mind.  Of course it wouldn't hurt if we got some beautiful spring weather next weekend too.  See you tomorrow.
