Comic book conventions are nothing new, but thanks to San Diego's massive influence and Hollywood's constant offering in the genre of fantasy and sci-fi -- people love Comicons and Phoenix is now one of the biggest.

"This is like geek celebration right here where you can just let your inner nerd out and have fun," says Jillian Squires.

From Ghostbusters to star wars to Legos, and no shortage of characters from comic books new and old.

"People are kind of looking for something different something they can enjoy and something they can not wait in line for all day long," says Squires.

From humble beginnings 10 years ago, people attended the Phoenix Comicon down in Ahwatukee. Now they've expanded to this.

35,000 people are expected at the Phoenix Convention Center. they've grown so big in fact they've even got their own night at the Diamondbacks game.

"I think there's a lot of nostalgia with baseball and comic books, it's just something that you enjoy getting together for and celebrating so I think its going to be a lot of fun at Phoenix Comicon and tonight at the game," says Katy Mor, dressed as Black Widow.

Comicon night at Chase Field brought childhood pastimes together and fans couldn't get enough.

"The kids, seeing the smiles on their faces, seeing the enjoyment that we can help bring them, that's pretty much what it's all about," says Allen Amis, dressed as Boba Fett.

"It's for everybody. People think its just geeks. It's everyone, little kids, adults there's movies there's comic books there's zombie makeup," says Lynda Vaterlaus, dressed as Lara Croft.

"Basically Phoenix is a growing geek community and it's just a lot of fun to be in costume and have fun with you know customers. It's just a blast a great weekend," says Daniel Toledo, Assassin's Creed.

William Shatner and the cast of Star Trek The Next Generation make this weekend's convention one that's sure to live long and prosper, but there are authors and artists and stars on hand.

Between 35,000 and 40,000 fans are expected at the event. $40 gets you in for the weekend. Kids 12 and under are free.
