Comedian George Lopez takes aim at Sheriff Joe

Posted: Updated:

Comedian George Lopez, in Los Angeles Saturday night, performed a live comedy routine seen nationwide on HBO.

Right in the middle, he went off on Sheriff Arpaio. Not making jokes about him, just using profanity and calling him names. The crowd loved it. The sheriff did not.

Even the seemingly unflappable Sheriff Joe Arpaio could not believe what comedian George Lopez said about him over the weekend.

"I've had a lot of people go after me but I was shocked with this guy -- what did I do?" the sheriff said.

"I tell you something about the demonstrators here, they call me every name in the book but they sure don't go as far as this guy did!"

Arpaio says he was actually watching the live show but changed the channel before Lopez started talking about him.

"I was shocked let's put it that way... I've been around law enforcement for 50 years but this is devastating in a way, the words he was using, not just the f word, others. He called me fat... that's probably the worst part of it, calling me a fat you-know-what."

So what would the sheriff say to Lopez?

"This guy has to hide behind a microphone? Why doesn't he get some guts and meet me here at high noon and we'll talk about it!"

"Actually I think this guy likes me. I really think he likes me. He's talking about me, making me more popular. I think the guy likes me, if I can get together with the guy, we can go to the Mexican restaurant, have a few beers and we'll have a little talk," said Arpaio.

"I think we could have fun if he could understand me. There's a big difference face to face, mano a mano."

Sheriff Joe says he would be willing to meet with Lopez in Los Angeles if he refused to come to the valley.
