A forklift operator who noticed a white powder leaking from a wooden pallet he was moving at a Cold Spring business led police to a big cocaine bust on Wednesday.
Officials say that pallet had 16 lbs. of cocaine hidden in its hollowed-out boards. The estimated street value of that quantity is thought to be between $300,000-$700,000.
Local police responded to a call from the business, reporting the find. Police officers called in the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force to dismantle the rigged pallet and retrieve the drugs. Onsite testing confirmed the powder inside was cocaine.
The source of the pallet and just how long it has been in circulation is a mystery and is likely to remain as such, investigators say.
