A Phoenix woman who allegedly murdered her mother and dismembered her body went to a neighbor's house for help.

That neighbor is now talking about what happened when the murder suspect knocked on her door.

Regina Martin says she thought her neighbor's mother died of natural causes. She even walked her back inside her house, not knowing the woman allegedly murdered her mother Deborah and had started to cut her up in a nearby room.

42-year-old Carol Hatley has been arrested, accused of killing and dismembering her 73-year-old mother in their Phoenix home Monday morning.

"I don't have any words for that, I'm just in shock right now," says Martin.

Martin doesn't want her face shown but says Carol Hatley rang her doorbell around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

"She just said her mother had passed and she was dead and she needed some help. She was not all bloody, she was drunk, she just said she needed help calling 911 and getting paramedics over."

Martin says Hatley's mother had cancer so she assumed she died from that. Martin called 911 not knowing a heinous crime had been committed next door.

"She was calm, I had no indication when I called the 911 operator that this had happened."

Martin says Hatley waited on her porch. When paramedics arrived she helped Hatley stumble back to the house, where police say her mother's body was partially dismembered.

"Right before I brought her home she said 'oh it was so bloody…' I said 'what was bloody?' She said it was bloody."

Martin says paramedics were already in the home when she and Hatley walked in.

"I walked her home and sat her down at the table and I heard paramedics say we'll take care of this in a few minutes and one asked me if I had been any further than the kitchen and I said no."

Police say Hatley's mother's body was found near the back bedroom, and it was a gruesome scene.

"I was under the impression she died from her cancer. I had no indication she had been murdered or cut apart."

Hatley is facing 2nd degree murder charges. Investigators say she and her mother had a history of domestic incidents and that Carol may have had a prior alcohol and prescription drug abuse problem.

Police say she has not admitted to playing any part in the crime.
