Fmr. LAPD detective weighs in on Shacknai case

Posted: Updated:

"We presented them science and real science doesn't lie."

Dina Shacknai still grieves for her son Max who died in a fall from the second floor of his father Jonah's Coronado mansion last year.

It's not just grief bringing her before the cameras once again this week, it's her search for truth and justice.

Shacknai says she has evidence her son did not fall over the railing by accident as was ruled by the local police -- that instead it was a homicide.

The only other person in the house at the time was Rebecca Zahau, Jonah's girlfriend.

Zahau mysteriously died two days later.  She was found naked and tied up, hanging from one of the mansion's balconies.  Her death was ruled a suicide.

Dina says there's just too much that doesn't add up in this case and that's why she commissioned two experts to look into it further.

They focused on the stairwell in the 27-room mansion and determined Max was too short to simply fall over the railing.  In addition, Max had other unexplained injuries consistent with an assault, specifically above an eye and on his forehead.

Dina and Zahau's family want investigators in San Diego to reopen the case.  Zahau's family believes she did not commit suicide.

Video: Los Angeles Police Detective Mark Fuhrman talks about the two independent investigations into Max's death.
