WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

The mayor of Warren says a federal grand jury wants records about city-owned trucks that haul garbage to a Detroit incinerator.

Mayor Jim Fouts says a subpoena from the grand jury wants documents about the purchase of trash trucks and records that explain the relationship between the city and a company that runs Detroit's trash incinerator. Mayor Fouts disclosed the grand jury probe earlier this week and released the following statement.

"On August 8, 2012, the City of Warren received a subpoena from a grand jury for certain city records. All of the records requested were forwarded to the grand jury on August 22, 2012, the deadline set by the grand jury.

We have and will continue to cooperate with the grand jury by supplying all records that are requested.

I am proud of my record of honest, transparency and forthrightness during my 31 year in city government, and I will never betray the public trust I have been given by Warren taxpayers. My appointees also must share this sense of honesty.

If any mayoral appointee is indicted resulting from this subpoena, he or she will be terminated immediately. The appointee will not be suspended but will be terminated."

Mayor Fouts says the documents the grand jury wants include emails sent or received by a high-ranking official in the Public Services Department. The mayor plans to hold a press conference to discuss the issue at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
